I recently completed two third round interviews where I was asked to prepare detailed presentations, one promoting a school wellbeing service & another outlining fundraising strategies for a mentoring NGO. I was praised for my ideas making it appear that the job was mine & said they hadn’t considered my strategies & asked me to email my files for reference. However, I was later told they chose another candidate. Is it now standard practice to request candidates’ strategic IP during interviews?

Here's one for the books - I asked a candidate a standard question "tell me how you handle conflict at work." This young lady stared me dead in the eye and said "I make things right - I get even." I nervously laughed. She was not kidding, she went on about how she "got revenge" on a colleague she had beef with by sabotaging his Powerpoint slides. I thanked her for her time, walked her out. Like, I really stood at the door and made sure she got into her car.

I think I've lost my ability to give a good interview. I'm applying for jobs and am getting some interviews but my past job rejections are affecting my nerves. I don't feel confident going in and I'm sure it shows. How can I get out of this frame of mind and regain my self-confidence -- if I ever get another interview?

I'm writing this with extreme disappointment, have applied for over 70+ jobs and got one with response, with all the effort and skills qualified written technical and online interviews and had last round yesterday with positive feedback and references would be the next and offer letter, as per mentioned trying to looking to relocate to job location and tada! i got a regret mail stating some other candidate is proper fit for the role. the interview process is more than 3 months and this happened.

Help me with a question I had in a recent interview that I think I flubbed. Interviewer said 'walk me through your resume' and I found myself just reading literally what my resume says and not really going into more detail because that would take ages. What exactly are you meant to say when they ask you this?

Just a reminder to everyone that’s out there looking for employment, I understand that employment in New Zealand is very tough and I hate it to. But just remember this that you don’t wanna give up on finding a job and honestly I once given up in looking for employment and honestly It took me years to find one. It started with me having no experience and I felt like a loser and that big honestly once I removed myself from that feeling I started volunteering and I gained the experience.

Just had a really weird screening call from an in-house HR person. First question she asked is what salary range I'm looking for, second question am I interested in another role they have there in the same team for LESS MONEY. Wtf?? She sounded unhappy when I said no then said thanks and she'll get back to me about the job I applied for then hung up haha. What is going on out there, is this type of thing normal?

Another day, same story: applied for a job, had multiple great interviews, was hinted I’m selected - It's been 10 days, no reply despite follow-ups. The company’s well reputed (150+ staff). We deserve at least a yes or no - HRs are paid to communicate. We put effort too. Some employers respond well, others don’t. Don’t get demotivated - keep applying, keep following up. We need jobs, but professionalism should go both ways. I hope this will help you - just my experience from interviews.
