Had a recent interview experience that taught me a lot. First round went great, second was a facility tour + formal chat. I gave my best, but was rejected. Feedback: I seemed nervous and didn’t ask enough questions. Lesson learned interviews aren’t just about good answers, they’re about showing confidence, curiosity, and genuine interest. Always engage and ask relevant questions to leave a stronger impression. That was my takeaway, and I hope it helps someone preparing for their next interview

I recently resigned from a role due to unclear expectations and a personality clash with my manager. She offered to be a reference, and I provided her details when I was told I was a preferred candidate. However, I learned this week that my application won't proceed because her reference raised concerns with the interview panel. I realize I was naive in trusting her. When asked for referees, I felt I had no choice but to provide her. What should I do differently next time during reference checks

Just a reminder to everyone that’s out there looking for employment, I understand that employment in New Zealand is very tough and I hate it to. But just remember this that you don’t wanna give up on finding a job and honestly I once given up in looking for employment and honestly It took me years to find one. It started with me having no experience and I felt like a loser and that big honestly once I removed myself from that feeling I started volunteering and I gained the experience.

Is this normal? I interviewed for a role with the potential boss/manager and the person who is leaving - so Id be taking their role basically. The boss was warm and friendly, but the other employee seemed kind of disinterested and it's really thrown me off knowing if it was a good interview or not. Does anyone had this happen before? I feel like it's a bad sign?

Here's one for the books - I asked a candidate a standard question "tell me how you handle conflict at work." This young lady stared me dead in the eye and said "I make things right - I get even." I nervously laughed. She was not kidding, she went on about how she "got revenge" on a colleague she had beef with by sabotaging his Powerpoint slides. I thanked her for her time, walked her out. Like, I really stood at the door and made sure she got into her car.

Interview tip I wish someone told me earlier.😉As a senior marketer, here’s what I tell everyone! Back then, I'd use list tasks like "I managed socials, I ran ads.” But what hiring managers really want is this: How did you solve problems? Why did you make that choice? What did you learn? Even with limited experience, your thinking is your value. So tell your story like a strategist, not a task-doer. That’s how you stand out. Ever struggled to explain your thought process in an interview?

Second round interview next week! I find these the hardest because I’ve already said everything about myself and asked all my questions in the first interview! What are your hacks for a good 2nd interview? I’m meeting the CEO so I don't want to mess it up. 😬

When they ask "were do you see yourself in 2yrs or 5yrs" I hate this question. I just enjoy work and hope to find a wonderful place I will be at until I retire. I have no interest in climbing a lader, just love working. Would this work against me as I am not ambitious, just like to work hard in what ever role I have. Work life balance is the goal - any ambition in the workplace can tip that the wrong way.

I used to treat interviews like I was begging for a chance. Saying yes to everything. Smiling even when something felt off. Then I met a hiring manager who straight-up said: “We’re not just evaluating you—you should be evaluating us too.” That flipped a switch. I come in prepared with questions. I pay attention to red flags. And weirdly enough? I started getting more offers because I stopped acting like I needed the job. Curious, anyone else ever shifted their interview mindset like this?
