Genuine question. We constantly hear NZ has a doctor/nurse shortage, but I keep seeing stories of qualified people (IMGs, returners, career changers) struggling to get clinical entry points. Is the problem actually funding, supervision capacity, and rigid pathway... rather than a lack of people? what’s your take?

Been in a pretty standard desk job for years. It’s stable and pays alright, but I keep thinking about the healthcare industry. I’d have to retrain from scratch and probably take a pay hit for a while. For anyone in NZ who’s done it, was it manageable? Study load brutal? Finances a shock?

Should I be applying outside NETP? Looking at aged care? Aussie? Would genuinely appreciate practical advice....

Unpopular opinion: staying in healthcare might be the bigger risk. In my 30s, in a stable clinical role, but the pay feels unfair and burnout seems… normalized!! if you’ve walked away from healthcare, what did you move into? Did it genuinely get better or was it just a different kind of stress?

Hello! I'm a retired RN in the USA, & thinking of moving to NZ. I would like to keep busy, & knowing you need nurses, I would love to find nursing work there. But, being of retirement age, do I even apply for an RN license in NZ, & try to find work there? Or would my age be a formidable deterrent?

Me and my gf are moving to NZ for a year. My gf is a doctor and has been offered a job in Whangarei. We were hoping for a bigger city like Wellington, Auckland, Tauranga. What is the likelihood of getting a doctoring job offer in a less rural location?
