inLooking for work in New Zealand

Is anybody else actually really struggling getting a job? I’ve applied for so many! I’ve applied for jobs I’ve had experience in and job I’m over qualified for and 9 times out of 10 I don’t even get an interview. When I do get an interview I get told that I’m perfect for the job then I hear nothing for 2 weeks I reach out and they say they’ve filled the position or don’t even contact me back…

Had a recent interview experience that taught me a lot. First round went great, second was a facility tour + formal chat. I gave my best, but was rejected. Feedback: I seemed nervous and didn’t ask enough questions. Lesson learned interviews aren’t just about good answers, they’re about showing confidence, curiosity, and genuine interest. Always engage and ask relevant questions to leave a stronger impression. That was my takeaway, and I hope it helps someone preparing for their next interview

It's been a long time i am trying to change my career field but due to having no experience, no companies takes any interest and gets an easy response of others are having more experience that's why we can't process your application further. i have started some part time studies just to get some skills and hope to get a job but let's see if that will work. For the last six months, I’ve been applying continuously but haven’t received a single interview call. Until January, I had a good-paying job, but due to health issues, I had to resign. Since then, I’ve been actively searching for opportunities. In the meantime, I upskilled myself with three courses in data analysis and software development, but still, no luck. It’s been frustrating, and honestly, sometimes it feels like the end of the road.

I’ve been an office worker my entire life (now in my late 40s) and I’m tired of it, really just unmotivated to sit at a desk for 8 hours a day, plus I don’t really get any sense of purpose from my job. I want a radical change and to study environmental science and work outdoors/do something that benefits the environment. Does anyone have any advice or personal stories of making this kind of career jump at this age? Were you successful? Any regrets? I need hope...

I recently resigned from a role due to unclear expectations and a personality clash with my manager. She offered to be a reference, and I provided her details when I was told I was a preferred candidate. However, I learned this week that my application won't proceed because her reference raised concerns with the interview panel. I realize I was naive in trusting her. When asked for referees, I felt I had no choice but to provide her. What should I do differently next time during reference checks

Is anyone actually finding jobs in New Zealand right now? I've been job hunting since February - NEARLY SIX MONTHS!! - I'm SO discouraged. I'm perfect for some of the jobs i'm applying for and there's just radio silence most of the time. I'm in project management - does anyone have any hot tips? It shouldn't be this hard!

Just a reminder to everyone that’s out there looking for employment, I understand that employment in New Zealand is very tough and I hate it to. But just remember this that you don’t wanna give up on finding a job and honestly I once given up in looking for employment and honestly It took me years to find one. It started with me having no experience and I felt like a loser and that big honestly once I removed myself from that feeling I started volunteering and I gained the experience.

Is this normal? I interviewed for a role with the potential boss/manager and the person who is leaving - so Id be taking their role basically. The boss was warm and friendly, but the other employee seemed kind of disinterested and it's really thrown me off knowing if it was a good interview or not. Does anyone had this happen before? I feel like it's a bad sign?
