Here's one for the books - I asked a candidate a standard question "tell me how you handle conflict at work." This young lady stared me dead in the eye and said "I make things right - I get even." I nervously laughed. She was not kidding, she went on about how she "got revenge" on a colleague she had beef with by sabotaging his Powerpoint slides. I thanked her for her time, walked her out. Like, I really stood at the door and made sure she got into her car.

My cousin recently got a job after months of searching - she was having difficulty securing a role for a few months and I checked in often to try help where I could. Plot twist - the hiring manager was someone who rejected her in the past but kept her profile on hand for - what is now - a future opportunity. Maybe someone needs to hear this today - sometimes "no" just means "not yet" and staying calm, gracious and patient can be a networking moment for a better role.

Every Friday at 4:45pm, I spend 15 minutes jotting down: • One win (with numbers if possible) • One challenge I navigated • One thing I learned That's it. Takes 15 minutes. After a year? I had rock-solid evidence of my impact for my performance review. My boss was floored by my "incredible memory" for results. Not memory. Just good notes. 😉

Writing a cover letter? 📝 Switch 'To Whom it May Concern' for one of these: ➡️ Dear [person's name] ➡️ To the hiring manager ➡️ Dear Sir or Madam ➡️ To the [department name] "To Whom it May Concern" is OK if you don't know who'll be reading your email. Last week I tried the STAR method - https://www.seek.co.nz/career-advice/article/how-to-use-the-star-interview-technique - in an interview in response to questions and it was really beneficial, helping me to structure my response and ensuring I highlighted my impact and achievements. I have a second interview next week with the same company which I am very excited for. I think this method helped me to progress to the second round. Has anyone else used this method? How have you found it?
