My cousin recently got a job after months of searching - she was having difficulty securing a role for a few months and I checked in often to try help where I could. Plot twist - the hiring manager was someone who rejected her in the past but kept her profile on hand for - what is now - a future opportunity. Maybe someone needs to hear this today - sometimes "no" just means "not yet" and staying calm, gracious and patient can be a networking moment for a better role.

Dear Seek Team, I would like to suggest adding a mandatory field for "Working Hours per Week" in job listings, especially for part-time positions. This will help job seekers better assess whether a role fits their availability before applying, and in turn, save time for both applicants and employers. Some employers include this information, which is helpful. Making it a standard part of job listings would provide clarity and improve the overall efficiency of the recruitment process. Thank you.

I'm looking for any advice for job searching as I'm unemployed and have been searching for a job for over a year. I have sent hundreds of applications, with little success. I graduated from Massey University with a Bachelors of International Business and have Certificates across Finance, Data analytics, and Accounting. I also have also done coding projects as well as a small business consultancy project focused around Digital Marketing which I add onto my Resume and Cover Letter if relevant.

It’s been almost a year since I began looking for a new opportunity in construction. I have 4.5 years of industry experience, including working as a Site Supervisor on large-scale commercial projects. I’m also about to complete my Master of Construction Management. Despite that, after applying for over 100 roles—tweaking my CV, writing tailored cover letters, and reaching out to recruiters—I still haven’t received a single offer.

Ageism - what do you think - I am a very young 56yr old with alot of energy and experience. I actually took off my CV that we have 5 grown children as I thought it went against me. Do you think younger applicants with less experience are SOMETIMES hired as they are cheaper and easy to "mould"?
