Feeling anxious and overwhelmed... job hunting in NZ is impossible! So far, I’ve only managed to do one short-term labouring contract. Honestly, it feels like there are hardly any jobs out there. Is there any advice on how to get a permanent job?

Yip, job marker is tight at the moment. . . Best advice Don't Give Up. . . I had luck through a 11month stint through a temp agency with the same employer & was taken on full-time but had to wait a couple of month's to avoid the fees demanded by temp agencies to employer's equal to 12weeks wages for taking on the temp. But it is a good way to get your foot in the door & can also be a good way to 'Name Drop' prospective employer's your current employment situation. Good luck anyhoo

I helped my husband by turning up at sites and asking. Also made him a one page CV in an envelope and he gave it to site managers.
The employer said it was the best CV he'd had lol due to its breifness and his dislike of reading CVs.
Letter intorduction by nickname, basic intent and what he'd done in the past but no detail and in only a few sentences keeping it casual. Asking for any spare shifts available keeping it casual. End with full name and number. He did get permanent longterm work.

Hang in there Mich. Sometimes temp/contact work can be the way into it. If they see you doing great work as a temp, you should be top of mind when something permanent comes up.

I feel the same,job hunting over a year now,and I’ve got over 20+ years experiences, feeling so hopeless, and every job has a few hundreds of applicants already, makes m red wonder is nz economy this bad now? Can all employers try to help out as much people as possible? I really need the chance and luck
