I think I've lost my ability to give a good interview. I'm applying for jobs and am getting some interviews but my past job rejections are affecting my nerves. I don't feel confident going in and I'm sure it shows. How can I get out of this frame of mind and regain my self-confidence -- if I ever get another interview?

You are lucky to get an interview. I looked at the amount of applications I have sent in the last couple of months and it's around 50 with one interview. I am beginning to think my age might be showing through my experience on my resume. I still have heaps of years and experience behind me but can't even get an interview! in the past I got interviews and offers. can be quite confidence/ soul destroying

The job market is tough right now — many roles attract over 100 applicants, with some popular ones getting close to 1,000. Some are even advertised only for compliance, despite already being filled internally. Knowing this helps keep perspective — it’s not about your ability but timing and fit. Stay positive, trust the process, and keep moving forward — each step brings you closer to the right opportunity.

Could a bit of positive visualisation help? E.g. close your eyes and imagine yourself knocking the interviewers socks off by calmly and confidently answering their questions. It might sound a bit silly but professional sportspeople apparently do it all the time. I think the theory is when you arrive in the situation you imagined you'll have positive associations with it (or something like that).

Yes I feel the same. Of the few interviews I have gotten over the post few years I have struggled with confidence

I highly recommend a youtube channel from a guy called Don Georgevich. He has all sorts of interview/recruitment videos which I’m sure you would find useful. I’ve referred to his tips many times as both an interviewee and an interviewer and have found him to be a great boost. Get back on the horse, and good luck 🙂

Think positive thoughts everyday!
Remind yourself that you are worthy of having a new position that will make you happy, how great you are at doing what it is you do & how confident you are doing it with the skills you have as well more you could possibly aquire.
What you put out to the universe is what you get back so stay positive, keep thinking you have the job already & envision yourself in your new role , anxiety will fade once you remind yourself of what you are truly capable of acheiving

I would look up some courses on here or LinkedIn learning which you can get full access to through Digital Suite. Assuming you’re in New Zealand, Te Heke Mai is a very good website, you can get free mentoring through it. I’ve found it’s really helping with my confidence, with their support I applied for six jobs last week. I would’ve been too scared to apply because they want experience and I just graduated (again) so I don’t have any experience.
