Self-Employed
Bit of a quandary here. My team’s going back to the office three days a week, but the role I’ve been eyeing at another company is 100 % remote (same pay band, similar scope). I actually enjoy the buzz of the office but the commute’s brutal and remote would save me two hours a day. For folks who’ve jumped from hybrid to fully remote, did the novelty wear off? What did you miss most about being on site, and how did you stay visible with leadership? Keen to hear pros and cons before I decide.

Data Science Intern
I had to do my internship remotely. It felt very isolating, and it became more and more difficult to contact the person who was meant to be overseeing my internship within the company. I felt like I craved proper conversation. My 5yo is pretty intelligent but still tends to talk about things in great depth that I might not want to talk in great depth about, and he’s at school all day. I’m an introvert so I need space but I still do need some human connection. I loved that part at my old career.

Systems & Operations Lead
I was the exact same, sadly the novelty does wear off after a while. To begin with I was very productive personally and professionally, more of a work-life-balance but it did shift when I started to roll out of bed and just log in &sit in the same place for 8 hours & do the same after I'd finished. Now I'm in another remote role I am more disciplined in my wake up routine, take actual breaks that include the outside. I'd recommend making sure you have plans during the week for human interaction!
