Question for salaried workers: how much overtime do you do? I find myself at work until 7 or slightly later the 3 days I'm in the office. I don't seem to have any overtime or time in leiu policy in my contract. Is it required by law? I don't want to be working late all the time but I also don't want to lose my job. Is it normal to have to work late this much? I'm in marketing for a tech co.

hey, i feel youuu!! marketing in tech can get like that sometimes. overtime isn’t always guaranteed for salaried roles if it’s not in your contract, but working late constantly isn’t ideal. track it and see if you can chat with your manager about workload.... setting boundaries early can help without risking your job.

Yeah it can be a tough thing to break when it becomes the norm. My understanding is 'reasonable' overtime is a part of most agreement so I guess the question is what's reasonable? To me all the time probably isn't. I think Jasmine's suggestion is a really good one, maybe even an option to discuss flexy time in lieu?

That seems a bit rough. I generally do an hour or two a week, but some weeks not at all. Then there are the very rare occasion its more if we have people sick and on holidays at the same time, but generally we share the load. If you are finished at 5, and consistently at work until 7, then its time for a talk with the boss about how to make the schedule work better.
