Im facing a dilemma - I've been offered a role where the base salary is lower than what I'm getting now but they are offering an impressive list of perks and benefits as a compensation for the lower than market salary. So how should job seekers weigh salary against benefits like health insurance, flexible work arrangements, professional development opportunities, and paid time off? When might a lower salary with better benefits be the smarter choice?

I personally think it depends on how much lower the base salary offered is compared to your current role and where your value lies. If it is insignificant, then perks and flexible working arrangements would make me lean towards the new role. Only because I value those two factors above others. Nevertheless, I think it would be relevant to ask if the salary can be reviewed in 3-6 months and have that in written confirmation.

Professional development can be one of the big ones. If you can see a genuine path to the next step in your career then it's worth factoring in. Do you think they'd be open to a conversation about why they can't match the market rate? If nothing else it shows you know your value.
