How to deal with salary interview questions? In a screening interview I just had, the HR person asked my salary range straight off the bat and I felt put on the spot because usually that comes up later. What's the best thing to say in this situation? I'm not good at wheeling and dealing...

All businesses have a salary budget per employee, rightfully so....BUT if the discussion starts with a salary question...then your dollar worth to the company is in question and not what your expertise can do for the company or how you have or can grow the business and yourself. Negotiating remuneration is about self belief and knowing that you always give 100%, factually and proven. Personally, I would leave if that was the opening question.
