When they ask "were do you see yourself in 2yrs or 5yrs" I hate this question. I just enjoy work and hope to find a wonderful place I will be at until I retire. I have no interest in climbing a lader, just love working. Would this work against me as I am not ambitious, just like to work hard in what ever role I have. Work life balance is the goal - any ambition in the workplace can tip that the wrong way.

I worked with a friend like this years ago, and honestly he just called it out directly in his interviews. He talked about seeing himself in the role still. Doing well, working faster, being an expert with 5 years of expertise. And it worked. Honestly, now I think I'd love that answer from someone. I love seeing people grow into new things. But not forcing them for no reason.

I think your response is great! There's nothing wrong with being happy and settled in the role you are in, and I've found small businesses in particular are grateful for this, because they may not have the opportunities to advance. Of course, there's nothing wrong with being an ambitious go getter, it's just not my vibe and I think if you're happy, that's the most important thing in life. ☺️

I think it depends on the role and culture of the place where you're applying. If it's an investment bank for example, they're probably going to want someone who's super ambitious and competitive where as there's probably a lot of other business that would really appreciate the honesty and just want a good worker. Feel like if you answer the question truthfully you're more likely to gel with the work culture.

I think being clear about what you want is the best move. If your goal is a steady role where you can do great work and have balance, own it! You could say, ‘I’m looking for a place where I can contribute consistently and grow in my skills, without sacrificing balance.’ Being authentic is like strong branding, it makes you memorable.

i get you yeah... it;s not everyone’s goal to climb the ladder, and that shouldn’t be seen as a negative! you can frame it around stability, enjoying your work, and contributing long-term..... that’s valuable to employers too 🙏🏻
