The job market is brutal. I’ve applied to roles since October some with zero responses. AI screening systems reject qualified candidates who lack specific keywords, creating a frustrating catch 22. HR gets overwhelmed with applications, so they rely on poorly programmed AI that doesn’t truly understand qualifications. You almost need AI to write your CV/cover letter just to get past AI screening. It feels hopeless when algorithms, not people, decide your fate before anyone reads your application

You'd think at the very least, companies could provide an automated, "Thank you for your application but on this occasion you were unfortunately unsuccessful" type response. That would be the bare minimum (and with AI involved, this should be easier than ever!). Completely ghosting candidates has become so common but it is unprofessional, ignorant and shows a great lack of empathy. A poor reflection on the company concerned!

It is super tough out there Owen. Not 100% but I've heard using AI to write your CV/cover letter can work against you with their screening software. I think it just comes down to you drawing a direct line between what they're looking for and your skills. Hope something comes through for you.

Yeah it shouldn't be so hard to get your application in front of a human Owen. Apparently if you read the job ad really closely and put your skills in similar language to what they use, if should help you get through those screening tools. Hope that helps man.
