Hello fellow job seekers, I've been applying for jobs since March and while I get interviews now and then I haven't been able to lock in a job. 😭 How do you stay positive and motivated when you're job hunting? How can I hype myself when I feel deflated?

Hi There,
I've been applying since December. Best thing I have found is from the Galaxy Quest movie, "Never give up!, never surrender!" just keep going and take it one day at a time. Good Luck!

It's so hard, isn't it! Solidarity - you are not alone. The Kiwi job market is rough at the moment - some of the toughest we've seen, even through 2020. I'm sure others will have some great tips for you, but I just wanted to say - it's not just you!

I hear you dude. Really, I do. It's even harder when you get to the store and buying the most basic of basics takes your weekly budget away thanks to absolutely ridiculous inflation, too. The motivation I find is keeping my friends close. Spending time with them goes a long way. Reminds you what you're fighting for, at least for me. Going on walks with them where I can, but fuel is also expensive so if you live country like me, I hope you have local friends... Good luck mate, I believe in you.

When I realised there were 00's going for the same jobs I relaxed abit and didn't feel so bad - thats alot of competition. I have been looking for a year.

I think need to keep a balance of both high quality and high quantity of applications, and you will land somewhere. Regarding motivation - I think we need to focus on why(why we need it so badly) and really set some habits around it so it becomes instinctive. Example - I started saving jobs on my train commute and would dedicate 1hr a day to apply to job everyday.

I’m fairly new to this, just finished my second degree six weeks ago. I just try to spend some time on it each day, but also plenty of time on my interests while my child is at school. I sit there in the morning watching TV or gaming and flicking through the recommended jobs on the app & other sites. I immediately delete any I’m not qualified for and any in the wrong location. Save any that look good. Apply for 2-5 late in the week. 2hrs/day I upskill using online courses.
