Do you follow up on job applications and if so, when do you do it and how many times? I don't hear back from some companies AT ALL! It's so frustrating. Would a follow up email change anything do you think?

Follow up is important even with rejection. We acknowlege all applications. Once a role is filled with the successful candidate we do a bulk email to the remaining applicants to let them know of the outcome and give them the option to stay on our system. Its basic manners and respect rather than keep people hanging. That's best practice for agencies anyway. I can't speak for how independent businesses respond - usually they don't as they can't cope with the volume of applicants.

Applying to prospective work websites for future jobs - shows an interest - That's what I'm doing. Some of the websites though UHHHH - like how many times do I need to type up my jobs and dates and times..... Some Jobs websites are so annoying I cancel out - I am not typing up everything, when I just attached my resume dude come on - you know?

It's very unfair (not to mention ignorant!) when potential employers don't respond to candidates. I know many are extra busy these days with a high number of applications but there is still no excuse not to provide even a generic response, advising a candidate that they have been unsuccessful. Waiting on the outcome of a job app is often very stressful for people and they deserve the respect of a response. Hope things improve for you soon! ♥

I followed up and asked where they were at with applications - they advised they were looking at applications that week. 2 weeks later I had heard nothing so emailed again just to get a "the position has been filled" - no thank you for your application or anything.

Yes I have heard probably twice from the numerous jobs I have applied for. People just don’t bother letting you know.

it would also be nice if you are advised about what skills you are missing, or what you didn't have that they where looking for. I always get back "we chose someone who's skills and experiences more closely match what we are looking for: after 30 years in an industry I would like to know what skills I am missing. Is it okay to ask this question once you are turned down.?

When you have the exact skills they're looking for and they get back to you a month later saying, there were other candidates suitable for this job. MAN! are they looking for fresh young people??? It's not like the old school days now the hiring managers are being very very picky so we get no chances AT ALL!! Or they might not like the names if it's fobby they cnt pronounce it it's a NO. PMO

I know it’s frustrating not hearing back, but honestly, that’s how it goes most of the time. The key is not to take it personally and just keep moving forward.
