APAC Design Lead
Several of my senior designers want to move into leadership roles, but we don't have management openings anytime soon. I'm worried about losing talent while wanting to support their growth. Has anyone navigated this challenge successfully? What alternative leadership opportunities, project roles, career progressions or mentorship programs have worked to keep senior designers engaged without traditional management positions?

Honestly for me these would be sit down conversations about their goals. And asking about specifics to get on the same page.
I had someone working for me years ago who wanted to advance. Our team/division was only 2 of us so nowhere to go.
Turns out he wanted growth, and ownership. I thought it was about money. So we took on twice as many projects and I helped him to run and lead one for 6 months.

Following as facing the same thing. We're a relatively small team so current thinking is looking at the 3-4 main things I'm responsible for, and having an effective 2IC for each of those. Still not sure though. Any thoughts are welcome? 🙏
