I'm in my late 40s now and want to move from marketing into a more 'meaningful' job, like education or a research-based position. I'm happy to start from entry level in a new field, but I'm worried ageism will make it impossible to get hired. Given I would have to study for a few years, is it realistic to start fresh in my 50s?

I'd really encourage you to explore whether there are ways to pivot without starting completely from scratch. If you do decide to retrain, talk to people already working in those fields about the actual job market and opportunities for mature-age entrants. Good luck!
