A curve ball question here: I have a job that I mostly like, but have been offered to apply for a job through a friend of a friend- problem is I'm not sure if now is a good time to take a risk. What if I get the job and don't like it but get stuck because of how the job market is? The pay is more and the role is similar to what I'm doing now, I'm just unsure and I don't want to regret leaving my current job.
What would you do in this situation?

It's tough because we never know how these things will turn out. Like the others have said there's no harm in applying and maybe making sure you've got lots of questions ready about stuff that's important to you for an interview. Do you think there could be a chance to talk to your boss about making some changes where you are to get things up from 'mostly'? 🤔

Apply and if you have an interview, make sure you ask alot of questions to get a feel for the role and if you would be a good fit. If you get any red flags you are not obliged to accept an offer.

Honestly, I’d at least apply. You’re not committing by throwing your hat in the ring. Worst case, you get a feel for what’s out there and decide to stay put. No harm in seeing what the vibe is first.

No harm in trying. You said you have a job you mostly like. Sounds like you need a career refresh to me. The other job could be one you mostly like or totally like. I guess if you have to move that might be a factor in not taking it, if you uproot your life and it doesn’t work out. But if you already live there, I think you should go for it. You can always look for another job if it’s not what you thought it was, you won’t be any worse off. Chances of getting it are probably low anyway.
