I am looking for a new job currently and wondering how much notice people usually give when they leave their job? I am the only receptionist at a doctors office, and I don't want to 'leave them in the lurch' but one months notice (according to some comments I've seen online) seems too long? It's a small practice so there isn't any policy or anything that I know of. Won't giving a month notice hurt my chances of getting a job?

I get not wanting to leave them high and dry, but the line has to be drawn somewhere. I don't think a month is too long, but I also think you need to look after yourself - if it's going to complicate moving to your next role, that's something worth communicating about.
I've found most employers pretty good with working out a plan... and for those who aren't, and can't discuss things constructively... well, maybe a month is too long. ☺️
