I'm feeling very unappreciated at work. I'm a senior developer - nearly 54 now - and my level of output is very high but I rarely get any recognition, whereas I see younger workers get promotions and lots of encouragement. I think it’d just be nice to feel seen or appreciated - should I say something or just forget about it? I think it would be almost impossible to get another job at my age - what would you do?

It’s a very difficult time to find a job but I’m certain you will be able to find someone who appreciates you to the level you are looking for
Speaking as someone who hires developers…

Hi there,
I think you’re special. Especially now when Senior Devs are much appreciated at tech companies. No worries, you just need to find a better environment where you’ll be seen and treated better and fairly.

A bit of recognition shouldn't be too much to ask for. Especially if it's being given elsewhere. Do you think starting a regular chat with your Manager about the things you've been working on and stuff you're proud of could be an option?

I resigned at aged 52 now 14 years ago. I've had soooo much fun doing a massive variety of jobs, none related to my previous careers.
There is so much work available if you want it. Just apply for jobs no one else wants. Think outside the square.

I’d lean towards having a conversation with your boss. They might assume you’re satisfied as you are (giving more attention to younger staff who may need the ‘boost’), and have no idea they may be contributing to your feeling of not being recognised for your efforts.
I am a trained Career Coach with an IT/Telco background - I have seen this many times.

Think of yourself first . you are more important than someone employer who takes away your time and happiness. if we died tomorrow they would replace us. think in the order I told you and things will change. reach out if you need to. I'm feeling rejected but the only way is to keep going. because I believe in me even when no one does. signed , over it job hunter. remember to reach out if you need to.
