It’s relieving going through comments realising I’m not the only one going through the struggle of finding employment. In fields people are well over qualified to be working in. Do you think it’s the employers that are potentially intimidated by people’s CV knowing they can’t offer anything near that individuals $ worth? People are more inclined to stay on the benefit and not work. Kiwis especially have witnessed and lived through dramatic change within our own country.

That's definitely the great part about places like this. Finding out you're not the only one. I think there's just too many people applying for some roles so the employers can be picky. Be nice if they got back to you.

Definitely not the lone ranger Kane. It's tough out there. Hard to know if employers are put off because of really qualified CVs...Do you think ppl would be open to negotiating on other things (like flexibility) if the $$s aren't there?

I've been advised by a recruiter to wait until after Christmas to apply for positions. Companies are busy with financial year end close outs, people going on leave for Christmas, so I'm not interested in taking on a role if it is not intended to be ongoing for 6 months or more. Companies are using the 90 day trial period clause in contracts to trial an employee, then ending their contracts after only 2 weeks. There are on average 100 applicants per job advertisement.

I have been looking for the right place to work down in here in Otautahi for 10yrs! It has been very hard! I had landed really good roles and actually thought these employers were going to take my career to a new level! No! Tall poppy syndrome big time down here!! Pay you less than what you are worth! Overload you! I am a qualified hairdresser of 30+ years! I am actually sick and tired of employers who are just bullies! Rip offs, dishonest and don’t look out for their staff. I’m done!

I’ve gone directly to companies face to face with the hopes of potentially hearing back. Put a lot of time into cover letters specifically related to the roles being applied for. I may get a generic email saying “thank you for your application, we will review and get back to you” that’s as far as it goes… It’s becoming abit of a joke. NZ citizens are being pushed towards the benefit, and I don’t blame them. Happy new year everyone. May the odds for ever be in your favour - Hunger games
