I hate this. I hate life. This. Sucks. I barely even get looked at by employers. All I have ever done in my life is be a Storeperson. LET ME BE MORE THAN THAT. I can't even go studying to be anything better. Society is too expensive to save any money to study. Bullying in school cut me off from opportunities. Finding a different job now feels impossible... I want a job involving animals / something physical. I seriously can't go back to warehouse work. I swear I will absolutely lose my mind. :(

Hey Max, totally get it. It’s such a horrible feeling, especially with all the pressure from everywhere and inflation is wild rn. Maybe something like work experience could help? School is well behind me now, but when I left, I felt like I had to work so hard to get opportunities. Bullying and a few other things, my confidence was rock bottom. I ended up doing 3-4 hours work experience a week, which turned into a job. Took longer than it should have tho :(

Hi Max, sorry to hear what you're going through. It may not feel like it but you're still really young with a lot of opportunities ahead of you. If you haven't already considered this, you could approach your nearest SPCA, council animal shelter or veterinary clinic and ask if they're currently looking for any volunteers to assist with the care of their animals (maybe for a few hours a week). These roles often don't require experience and may lead to a permanent job later on. All the best. ♥

Hey Max! Work experience is more common when you’re younger, but that shouldn’t stop anyone. I did it at 14 and again at 33. I wanted a career change, but needed to be sure before diving in. So, while still in the job I’d grown to hate, I started a few volunteer hours each week. I loved it, made connections, and it eventually became a job. Not overnight, but I got there in the end.

It is definitely a very hard market at the moment, and changing careers can be so difficult. You need a plan to move forward. I am sure there are skills from your current CV that are transferable to a new career. You can use AI to review your CV and then ask it to give you the transfereable skills if you are struggling with putting it together. You are NOT alone. I also am looking to move out of admin to a sales role and have had no luck for the last 5 years, but I still apply and still try.

Hey Max, I feel for you. Progression can be really difficult, and you're right - studying can be expensive. Have you thought about auditing some online courses? This can be done for a very small cost, and sometimes for free. Auditing may mean that you don't get the certificate, but you can still complete the course to increase your confidence in a subject, and give you interview talking points, etc. Maybe something on Coursera, Udemy, etc might catch your interest? Best of luck!

We really hear you there Max. It can feel tough to head into work each day when you're not feeling it any more. Good news is you've hit the big checkboxes already, you know what you want to do. We've got an article on Career Advice which might help, a career planner which helps guide you through the process and fill in some of the blanks. It can help take that broad idea you've got, and refine it. https://www.seek.co.nz/career-advice/article/download-seeks-free-professional-development-planner
