What's it like to be a Claims Consultant?
A Claims Consultant handles insurance claims on behalf of clients. They are responsible for investigating and processing insurance claims, negotiating settlements and ensuring all claim documentation is in order. This involves liaising with insurance companies, medical professionals, lawyers and clients to ensure a fair and accurate claim settlement. Claims Consultants often work with insurance companies, brokerages and law firms, but some operate independently or within larger consultancies.
Tasks and duties
- Reviewing insurance claims and determining the validity of the claim based on policy.
- Communicating with policyholders to gather detailed information about their insurance claim.
- Coordinating with adjusters, investigators, and other professionals to verify claim details.
- Evaluating the extent and value of damages covered by the insurance policy.
- Negotiating settlements with the claimant in line with company policy and legal requirements.
- Keeping detailed records of claims and submitting reports to the management.
- Remaining updated on changes in laws, regulations, and company policies related to insurance claims.
