What's it like to be a Systems Analyst?
A Systems Analyst operates at the intersection of business and technology, evaluating an organisation's computer systems and procedures, then designing solutions to help them operate more efficiently. Systems Analysts bridge the gap between IT and business by analysing processes, designing software systems and enhancing existing ones to optimise organisational performance. Their work touches numerous industries, from finance and healthcare to technology and government. In their day-to-day work, Systems Analysts collaborate with stakeholders across the organisation, from IT engineers to top management.
Tasks and duties
- Evaluating business systems to understand their functionality and efficiency.
- Designing solutions to improve or re-engineer business processes.
- Working closely with developers and end users to ensure systems are functioning as required.
- Implementing system improvements accordingly and monitoring them for efficiency.
- Creating system design proposals and presenting them to management.
- Carrying out system testing to check performance and identifying bugs and issues.
- Liaising with vendors and technical staff to resolve complex issues and achieve project goals.
