What's it like to be an Accounts Manager?
Accounts Managers, often also referred to as Account Managers, are responsible for managing client relationships and sales within a company. Their main aim is to maintain and grow business relationships with a company’s key accounts and create new business opportunities. They act as the primary point of contact for customers, managing any issues that arise, and ensuring high standards of customer service. They are also tasked with identifying sales opportunities, setting sales targets and attracting new customers. Accounts Managers can be found across various sectors including, technology, advertising and retail.
Tasks and duties
- Building and maintaining new and ongoing client relationships.
- Developing trusted advisor relationships with key accounts, stakeholders and executive sponsors.
- Forecasting and tracking key account metrics (e.g. quarterly sales results and annual forecasts).
- Coordinating the involvement of company personnel to meet account performance objectives and customers’ expectations.
- Negotiating contracts and agreements in order to maximise profitability.
- Resolving complex customer issues and complaints with a solution-focused approach.
