What's it like to be a Practice Manager?
A Practice Manager oversees the operational aspects of a medical, dental or veterinary office or clinic. They help to ensure the smooth-running of the practice, handling everything from employee management to billing processes, setting up appointments, and ensuring compliance with regulations. Practice Managers can also be involved in marketing and business strategy, identifying ways to enhance the patient experience and expand the business. Most Practice Managers work in healthcare environments though the exact setting can vary, ranging from small local clinics to large hospital departments.
Tasks and duties
- Managing the day-to-day operations within the practice, including planning and organising work schedules.
- Working on financial management activities like budgeting, reporting, billing and controlling inventory.
- Ensuring adherence to laws and regulations, including data protection, patient rights and health and safety measures.
- Implementing and maintaining quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and practice efficiency.
- Recruiting, training, supervising and appraising staff members within the practice.
- Improving office efficiency by implementing new administrative systems and procedures.
- Handling patient complaints and improving patient services based on feedback.
