What's it like to be a Design Lead?
A Design Lead directs the visual output of a project, product or service. They balance both aesthetic and functional elements, creating experiences and interfaces that meet user needs as well as solving a problem or offering improvements. Common responsibilities involve leading a team of designers, coordinating with other departments such as marketing, engineering and product management, and guiding the visual and interactive aspects of a product from its concept to launch. They work predominantly in tech industries, advertising agencies, or any businesses with a substantial digital presence.
Tasks and duties
- Leading the design team in creating conceptual elements and implementing them across various platforms.
- Collaborating with other team leaders for cohesion between the design and other aspects of a project.
- Taking responsibility for the visual components of a product or campaign, aligning them with client needs and expectations.
- Overseeing the entire design process, from ideation through execution to final delivery.
- Regularly reviewing and providing constructive feedback on a design team's output.
- Solving complex design problems and presenting clear and unique design solutions.
- Staying updated with industry trends and advancements in graphic and web design tools, practices and technologies.
