What's it like to be a Technical Business Analyst?
A Technical Business Analyst serves as a bridge between the business operations and the IT department of an organisation. They utilise their expertise in business, IT and data analysis to evaluate business needs and translate them into operational systems and processes. This role involves a good deal of problem-solving, gauging enterprise structure and working closely with stakeholders to define business requirements. Technical Business Analysts mostly work in technology-focused industries, although any business with an IT infrastructure may require their skills. In this career, Technical Business Analysts are often expected to balance both business acumen and technical know-how to drive business processes optimally.
Tasks and duties
- Evaluating business processes, mapping out needs and assessing suitability of technology solutions.
- Collaborating with IT team and management to set business requirements for software and system enhancements.
- Documenting and analysing workflow to ensure improvement and compliance with standards.
- Solving organisational information problems by analysing system requirements and recommending modifications.
- Performing regular audits to ensure systems and procedures are operating effectively.
- Conducting integration testing for end-users to ensure systems meet expectations.
- Acting as a liaison between stakeholders and project management teams to align with organisational objectives and goals.
