What's it like to be a Fabricator?
Fabricators, also often referred to as metal fabricators, are professionals who work primarily with metal to construct and repair metal structures or products. They might bend, cut or mould metal through processes such as welding or fitting. Fabricators usually work using blueprints or specifications from architects or engineers. Different industries such as construction, automotive, or aerospace typically employ Fabricators due to their skills and knowledge in building structures, vehicles or equipment. Despite the physical demands and the necessity for precision in this career, Fabricators regularly contribute to creating tangible products, components or systems.
Tasks and duties
- Reading blueprints or technical diagrams to understand the requirements of a product.
- Utilising power tools, like drills and grinders, as well as welding equipment to construct metal components for assembly.
- Ensuring precision in the manufacturing process by measuring and marking reference points on parts.
- Involvement in assembly processes by aligning and securing holding fixtures or parts together.
- Inspecting final products for quality and adherence to customer or industry specifications.
- Maintaining and servicing machinery used in the fabrication process.
- Adhering to established safety protocols and workplace standards.
