What's it like to be an Environmental Consultant?
Environmental Consultants are specialists in environmental science, who advise industries on policies and conduct detailed assessments on potential risks. They might also suggest strategies for minimising environmental damage, waste management, recycling, environmental health protection and renewable energy. Environmental Consultants largely work with corporations in industries like oil and gas, construction and waste treatment. Their work often requires collaboration with teams of scientists, engineers and other professionals to ensure corporations are in compliance with government environment standards. Part of their role is to keep abreast with the latest environmental research to suggest informed solutions to their clients.
Tasks and duties
- Conducting field surveys to collect information about an organisation's environmental impact.
- Assessing existing environmental data and preparing technical reports that summarise findings.
- Suggesting strategies to minimise environmental harm or to try and repair past harm.
- Ensuring organisations comply with environmental regulations and standards.
- Developing and implementing environmental policies and practices within an organisation.
- Communicating effectively with clients, regulators and team members about environmental concerns and possible solutions.
- Conducting environmental impact assessments and audits to evaluate the ecological effects of various activities or projects.
