Team Manager Youth Peer Support Service

Are you looking for an exciting role where you can make a difference using your management skills and own lived experience of mental distress and recovery?

If the answer is yes, then this might be the job for you!

Ember is a new mental health, addiction and intellectual disability group formed from the merger of two pioneering NGOs, Connect Supporting Recovery and Framework Trust. We deliver community based mental health and intellectual disability services in the greater Auckland region.

Paired Up is small established pilot service funded by Auckland District Health Board that is based in an East Auckland High School. Being a pilot the Team Manager role is a fixed term position until the completion of the Pilot (31 January, 2021). A key part of this role is supporting the independent evaluation of Paired Up to support ongoing funding and growth of this service.

Paired Up’s goal is to mutually connect with young people and be alongside them while they take steps to reach their potential and to learn real skills of how to navigate their own wellbeing. This is achieved through intentional peer support and a youth development framework.

Peer support is a challenging role requiring resilience and the ability to relate to the people you work with. It is also a rewarding role where you can use your own lived experience of mental distress to make a positive difference in the lives of young people.

As the Paired Up Team Manager, you will create and maintain strong relationships with the School and social services that can support the young people Paired Up works with. Due to the small size of the Paired Up service approximately half of the Team Managers role will be working directly with young people. Please refer to the Youth Peer Support Worker Job Description to understand this aspect of the role

Paired Up works alongside young people using the Intentional Peer Support Model www.intentionalpeersupport.org

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experienced mental distress and recovery themselves.
  • Has the ability to connect and relate to young people.
  • Is an experienced manager.
  • Has strong cultural competencies.
  • Is familiar with their obligations to Te Tiriti O Waitangi.
  • Is able to work in a team environment.
  • Is able to be self-directed and work independently when needed.
  • Has excellent communication and listening skills.
  • Is able to have flexible working hours.
  • Has good computer literacy (especially e-mail and word processing).
  • Is able to work in an ethical framework.
  • Is positive and encouraging with a good sense of humour.

Qualifications/trainings needed for the role.

  • Bachelor’s degree or similar qualification in health, management or related field.
  • NZ registered health professional (e.g. Social worker, Occupational Therapist) (preferred)
  • Intentional Peer Support Core Training (preferred).
