Production Coordinator

The Company
Our client is an R&D hub, specialised in the development of custom-built machinery to transform agricultural industries. They are taking industrial automation out of the factory and into the fields and incorporating custom technology to make high productivity gains with embedded electronics, strong mechanical design, fully integrated mechatronics/robotic systems, smart sensors, and use of machine vision.

The company have strong business partners who they work with on projects and in addition to this have strong financial backing so they can focus on completing quality R&D to a high level.

With blue sky thinking, and agriculture being a ripe market for automation, this company have a strong future in the long term and have demonstrated strong growth to date.

What’s it like to work there? This is an R&D office that you won’t see often. It is a rare opportunity that you can step out of an air-conditioned office into a sun-soaked bay of plenty semi-rural orchard, see company products being tested in the orchards, then walk down a track to their Production/Assembly building. The office vibe is a buzz of activity where likeminded engineers are literally inventing custom-built new products to market that look set to revolutionise the industries they are designed for.

The Role
This newly created Production Coordinator role is driven by company growth and the need to optimise the links between R&D, Production, Purchasing, and Suppliers.
The role is primarily concerned with CAD Drawings, BOM’s, and ensuring the Production Team have what they need. As such you will switch between liaison with R&D, the Production Assembly team, the purchasing team (purchasing of parts for production), and external fabricators and parts suppliers. You should become an integral linchpin to making quality production happen in a timely way.

The R&D teams are responsible for the major design of products/projects. You will then do a full QA check on these designs, make any minor changes and drawing revisions, then create BOM’s and drawing packs and distribute these to both the Purchasing Team (so they can order the relevant parts) and to the Production Assembly team (so they can put the products together accurately). You would refer any major design changes back to the relevant R&D Designer.

The purchasing team will purchase parts, but you will still be a first point of contact with parts suppliers and answer any questions/resolve any issues they have plus ensure that parts received are as expected and meet the quality requirements.

Ideal Experience and Attributes needed
  • Mechanical CAD drawing/design within a manufacturing environment and have knowledge of production processes and tolerances etc.
  • Experience using a 3D CAD Package for drawing & BOM creation, Solidworks is preferred but other 3D design packages are also relevant e.g. Inventor, Creo, Catia, Solid Edge
  • 5+ years of relevant career experience
  • Can set up and improve on processes/procedures related to this role
  • Good communication and people skills there will be many people to liaise with
  • Proven ability to coordinate and project manage a similar CAD/Parts/Production Assembly processes
  • A relevant degree would be nice to have but relevant experience will be considered too
  • Can demonstrate an eye for detail
  • Quality Assurance experience with CAD Production Drawings and of parts/fabrication received
  • Experience liaising and coordinating between multiple parties to effectively project manage drawings and parts for purchasing and production.

This company is an exciting place to work with the technical & inventive products they are bringing to market. They have a strong team culture and is a good employer to work for, staff are treated well. This is a salaried role with Kiwisaver paid on top of salary, and health insurance is included.

Location is a drawcard here too, not only working in the sought-after location of Tauranga but working in a production role set amidst a relaxing semi-rural environment in a dynamic, growing team and company.

All applicants must be eligible to work in New Zealand.
