The Sustainable Seas National Science Challenge is a government-funded, multi-disciplinary and multi-agency research programme, funded until 30 June 2024. Our vision is that Aotearoa has healthy marine environments that provide value for every New Zealander.

We're looking for a dynamic researcher able to transcend disciplines and synthesise research from across the Sustainable Seas Challenge into high-impact outputs.

The role provides an exciting opportunity to work across a nationally significant research programme to produce highly impactful outputs with long-lasting benefit for managing Aotearoa's ocean estate.

We need a researcher capable of weaving together multiple strands of knowledge generated from across the Challenge and translating this into accessible and useful outputs for enabling Ecosystem-Based Management.

You will be an effective communicator and comfortable engaging with researchers, stakeholders and iwi to identify and develop outputs in a manner that maximises uptake and impact.

You'll work closely with the Synthesis programme lead, the Challenge Leadership Team and the communications team, to identify, develop and deliver synthesis outputs.

You will have post-graduate qualifications or equivalent experience, with knowledge and skills in at least one of the following: the biophysical sciences, social sciences, Mātauranga Māori and / or resource management and policy. Experience working across science and government sectors is an advantage. You will have excellent writing skills and a creative side eager to construct novel outputs.
