Viticulturist

Takapoto Estate is 600 acres of terraced farmland set amongst the beautiful shores of Lake Karapiro. It is home to the award winning Takapoto Angus, and Wine, a variety of 100% organically grown produce as well as the world class Takapoto Estate Showjumping Arenas.

It has quickly become a recognised and successful wine brand since its establishment in 2012. Winning New Zealand producer of the year at the London International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) in both 2017 and 2018, and the Pinot Noir trophy in both years.

This varied role will report directly to the General Manager and will be responsible for managing all vineyard operations in the 2.2 hectares of vineyard with an emphasis on quality and tidiness.

The role will involve:
  • Vine and weed spraying, mulching, vine trimming
  • Record keeping including spay diaries, irrigation records, timesheets, harvest records etc
  • Canopy management including shoot thinning, leaf plucking, bud rubbing, wire lifting, pruning and training
  • Maintaining a tidy vineyard and surrounding area
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
  • Previous vineyard experience is necessary
  • Experience on a tractor
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong initiative and ability to work independently
  • Physically fit and capable
There are three vineyard blocks on the beautiful estate, you will have the opportunity to work with a range of grape varieties including Chardonnay, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec and Pinotage.
The work will be completed both on tractor and by hand to maintain quality. The grapes are harvested by hand.

In addition to the vineyards, Takapoto Estate showcases native bush and park, a world class show jumping arena, beef and deer farm and vegie garden.
