How will you help?
This 12-month fixed term opportunity will support our Consumer Hub in the continued implementation of Westpac New Zealand's legal obligations under the Credit Contracts and Consumer Finance Act (CCCFA), and the upcoming changes to this Act.
The role will include:
Providing appropriate legal support and adding value to all relevant stakeholders involved in the CCCFA Phase 3 project.
Considering legal and commercial risk in all aspects of work undertaken to ensure balanced business decisions are made that are in line with overall bank objectives.
Making suggestions and working on altering internal bank documentation/ procedures to ensure continued compliance with new and existing CCCFA obligations.
Providing support to the compliance team on identifying gaps and building controls to ensure continued compliance with new and existing CCCFA obligations.
Contributing to the legal and greater business unit environment in a way that exemplifies the bank?s values and fosters a supportive environment with good morale.
To be successful in this position, you'll need:
Bachelor of Laws (or appropriate overseas equivalent)
(Entitlement to) NZ Practising Certificate
7+ years post admission NZ experience
Law firm and in-house experience
Strong technical skills, including sound knowledge of:
Laws applicable to the Credit Contracts and Consumer Finance Act 2003 and related laws and regulations;
Industry related Code of Practices, including the Banking Code of Practice and the Advertising Code of Practice and Reserve Bank of New Zealand guidance materials in connection with insurance
Proven legal research and legal opinion writing experience
Compliance experience (preferred)
Knowledge of (or interest in) the CCCFA and upcoming regulatory changes
