Would you like to be part of a growing, vibrant team of talented ecologists? Are you interested in working on and managing interesting projects, growing your technical and consulting skill sets, and developing a strong professional network within Auckland and around the country?

Ecology New Zealand Limited is seeking an enthusiastic senior-level freshwater ecologist with 5+ years of technical experience including 2+ years of NZ-based consulting experience to join our diverse team based on Auckland’s North Shore. The ideal candidate will have at least one relevant tertiary qualification and an excellent understanding of New Zealand’s freshwater ecology. A good grasp of typical planning requirements under the Resource Management Act (RMA) for freshwater ecology assessments and management plans would be highly advantageous. You will also need a great work ethic and a solutions-focused approach.

Key tasks for this role include:

  • Freshwater ecology assessments, monitoring and management
  • Field work, report writing and review
  • Project management
  • Mentoring junior and intermediate team members
  • Business development and networking

Ecology NZ provides a welcoming, collaborative atmosphere and our team has a talent for thinking outside the box. Our projects range in scale, type and complexity, which makes our work both challenging and rewarding. We provide training and team social opportunities, and although this role will be mainly based in Auckland, we have an abundance of work which takes us to other parts of this beautiful country, and we occasionally get to work on international projects.

In addition to our Auckland office we also have an office in Christchurch. Our team members enjoy a flexible working environment and a healthy balance of work, training, professional development and social activities.

If you think you would be a good fit for this role, Ecology New Zealand would love to hear from you! Please apply by sending your current CV and cover letter by Friday 20 December 2019.

The application form will include these questions:
  • Which of the following statements best describes your right to work in New Zealand?
  • How many years' experience do you have in a consulting role?
  • Have you completed a qualification in conservation and land management?
