Hōkai Rangi is the Department’s organisational strategy for the next 5 years. It recognises and builds on the good work we are already doing, however, it also looks to find new and alternative ways to achieve better outcomes for the people in our care and their whanau which will result in reduced reoffending.

 

  • Wellington location – Fixed term contract until mid 2021
  • Salary range of $151,619 - $214,050

The Māori Pathway - Manager Design and Implementation role will lead the design and transformation of two regions – Te Tai Tokerau and Hawke’s Bay.  It is an initiative to work across three agencies (Ara Poutama Aotearoa, Te Puni Kōkiri and Ministry for Social Development) with mana whenua, our partners, service providers, nga tāne and their whanau, to create a very different system and services so that nga tāne and their whānau thrive. 

We are taking a human centred design approach to our thinking and ensuring that all of our design is done through collaboration and co-design because we recognise that people know their lives best and should play an active role in the decisions that shape their lives.  It’s about bringing together those most impacted by our system and services and learning and implementing what would work for them. 

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Excellent understanding of kaupapa māori (values, culture and tikanga) applying tikanga values to work processes and outcomes
  • Able to converse in Te Reo Māori, is a preference but we will consider all applicants.
  • Strong leadership 
  • Comfortable in Te Aō Maori environment and applying tikanga values to work processes and outcomes
  • Courageous in breaking new ground and prepared to lead and drive the initiative

You will have the following key skills to support your application:

  • Proven successful team leadership experience with proven success in encouraging teamwork and co-operation across teams.
  • Ability to use persuasive, influencing and conflict management skills to resolve critical issues in high visibility forums, and advocate for successful change
  • Strong ability to analyse a broad range of information from multiple sources to ensure quality design of operational changes 
  • Leadership and experience in human centred co-design and significant business transformation 
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with peers and manage stakeholder relationships 
  • Extensive working knowledge of a broad range of processes related to the operation of the public sector and government.
  • Ability to think and work strategically whilst maintaining an attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

 

Experience in a Service Design is advantageous but not imperative.   You have an excellent level of business awareness and commercial acumen with the ability to continuously create wow moments with customers. You would pride yourself on your organisational, time management and prioritisation skills and you are not afraid to get stuck in and roll your sleeves up!
