Psychologist

Psychologist – Hawke’s Bay

The Department of Corrections is a core part of New Zealand’s Justice Sector. Our vision is to improve public safety and reduce re-offending through strong leadership, capable staff, a safe working environment and effective partnerships.

We have an exciting opportunity for clinical psychologists to join our team in Hastings. Here in Hastings we work in one of the two youth units in the country. In addition to this prison, you will also cover five probation sites from Gisborne to Hastings.

This particular office is a great place to work if you have a young family. We have a very family-friendly environment with flexible hours and an accommodating and supportive team.

Not only do we offer a great work/family balance here, we offer the beautiful lifestyle that is living in the Hawkes Bay. Close to sandy beaches, outdoor activities and well-regarded schools, this is the perfect location for you to both work in, and learn from a dedicated team.

This professional role calls for someone who:

  • Is reliable with strong communication skills
  • Has a minimum of a Masters degree in Psychology (Clinical or Forensic Psychology and registration with the NZ Psychologist Board in the clinical/counselling and general scope of practice)
  • Is an excellent problem solver who can work across cultures

In return we can offer you:

  • A connection within a vibrant supportive culture
  • A competitive salary and structured advancement opportunities
  • Commitment to professional development and clinical supervision
  • World class criminal justice psychology training and mentoring

We are open to receiving interest from any part of the world as long as your qualifications are registered with the New Zealand Psychologist Board.

You already know how beautiful New Zealand is - the otherworldly peaks and valleys of Middle Earth brought this not-so-hidden secret to the world with good reason. But these views are no Hollywood-crafted mirage - they are the real deal, and certain to take your breath away. From the coolest little capital in the world, to the alpine mountains and glaciers we have it all. http://www.lonelyplanet.com/new-zealand

As a psychologist with the Department of Corrections you will have the opportunity to explore the country while also providing clinical risk assessments and treatment for prisoners and offenders in the community.
