Auckland Prison is New Zealand’s only male maximum security prison, presenting as a unique and challenging environment.

Working within the new world class maximum security facility, you will work as part of a crew of psychologists at the Department of Corrections looking to recruit our next member of the close-knit team that we are. Our vision is to be a pioneering, leading psychological service within the prison services. We currently have vacancies in Auckland Prison.

As a Psychologist, you will be supporting the Auckland Prison team and working as part of a multi-disciplinary team of registered psychologists who provide psychological advice and consultation to a range of stakeholders.

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to use your clinical expertise and provide professional expertise and leadership in a diverse social service environment. Working within a scientist-practitioner framework, providing clinical services targeted to assist offenders develop skills to reduce re-offending is pivotal to this role.

Our psychologists undertake clinical assessments and treatment in prison and in the community, provide supervision, advice and training within Corrections and allied agencies, monitor integrity of rehabilitation programmes and participate in service and research initiatives.

This professional team calls for someone who:

  • Is reliable with strong communication skills
  • Has a minimum of a Masters degree in Psychology (Clinical or Forensic Psychology and registration with the NZ Psychologist board in the clinical/general scope of practice)
