Parks & Gardens Maintenance Officer

Our communities on Banks Peninsula care deeply about their open spaces. The Peninsula holds a special place in the heart of all the citizens of Christchurch, with wide open spaces and smaller, seaside parks to enjoy.

As a Parks and Gardens Maintenance Officer operating from a base located in Duvauchelle and covering a diverse and wide area from including Diamond Harbour, Little River the Bays and Akaroa you will be responsible for ensuring that the parks, gardens and associated assets of Banks Peninsula are presented and maintained in a manner that enhances Christchurch City's image as New Zealand's "Garden City".

Ideally, you will have a special affinity with Banks Peninsula and an appreciation of the things that are most important to these individual communities.

You will have the opportunity to perform a wide range of parks maintenance tasks including ornamental and amenity gardening, sports park preparation, amenity mowing and playgrounds bin servicing and everything in between. We provide a seven day a week service where required for servicing the key areas as well as responding to urgent parks related matters. You will a key become a member of a wider parks team that includes a wide range of horticultural discipline experts, including plant collection curators, turf specialists, arborists and plant and tree propagation experts, all of who can support your activities and provide advice where needed.

If you are a passionate outdoors person that enjoys variety in your job, is happy to muck in and help out and wants to leave a positive legacy for the citizens of Christchurch, we would love to hear from you.

You will have a full driver's licence, a minimum of level 4 National Certificate in Horticulture, Sports turf and or equivalent, or extensive experience in similar role. A Grow Safe qualification and/or a Traffic management ticket/qualifications would be highly desirable.

Note the Role will be based out of a Depot located in Duvauchelle on the Banks Peninsula.

Salary - $23.57 to $29.46 per hour
