Laboratory Assistant

This is an excellent opportunity for a recent school leaver, or keen scientist to join our established Laboratory team in our Airport Oaks offices. You will have a hands-on experience and get a great insight into the many career opportunities within our labs.

Watercare's laboratories provide analytical and related specialist services to a range of internal and external customers. We are seeking a reliable and highly-motivated laboratory assistant to support the testing activities in the microbiology laboratory.

Some key responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing culture media (i.e. Weighing out dehydrated media, dispensing liquid media and autoclaving).
  • Maintaining microbiology media stocks by: i) Monitoring stock levels and expiry dates; ii) Ordering new stock; and iii) Assisting with the management of QA/QC records for media.
  • Managing biological waste (i.e. Autoclaving waste and assisting with the removal of waste from the laboratory).
  • Keeping records on the performance of laboratory equipment (e.g. Temperature records for fridges, freezers, waterbaths and incubators).

The preferred requirements for this role are:

  • Completed NCEA Level 3 with Maths and Chemistry and ideally have some work experience in a commercial laboratory testing environment (not a deal breaker if you do not!)

  • Reliable and able to perform to deadlines and the confidence and ability to handle pressure

What do we offer?

We offer you the chance to build an exciting career, while we support you with on-going training and development.

As the successful candidate, you will be part of an organisation with a commitment to its staff and a commitment to the sustainable management of our environmental resources.
