Legal Editor - Cases

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

The primary objective of the role is formation, development and generation of content for an online portfolio of cases products.

 

The Cases Editor will be instrumental in ensuring that our cases products continue to deliver on customers’ expectation by ensuring that the products are current, relevant, accessible, and accurate. Content will be edited applying the New Zealand Law Style Guide and Thomson Reuters house style, where applicable.

 

They will need to have a good understanding of the law, have strong online research skills, and possess a high degree of attention to detail. They will need to have the ability to work in a methodical manner, be capable of expressing information clearly and succinctly, and will be able to respond appropriately and quickly to changes in product publishing or priorities.

 

This person will need to work closely and with confidence with internal and external stakeholders in order to be able to meet defined publishing aims. There may be times when this person may be asked to work on other products outside of the cases portfolio.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Editorial

  • Edit material to conform to Thomson Reuters house style and established procedures.
  • Update databases according to required timeframes and targets.
  • Provide editorial assistance to marketing personnel with promotional material, this includes providing marketing with correct information about assigned products.

 

Customer Focus

  • Ensure that the customer is at the centre of all decision-making in relation to the product portfolio.
  • Participate in the editorial customer visit programme, as appropriate and attend appropriate customer focus training.
  • Answer questions from customers and Thomson Reuters staff on assigned products.

 

Writing

  • Write summaries for a variety of case law products.
  • Classify decisions and identify case relationships where relevant.
  • Update case research products with subject-specialist content.
  • Prepare material for updates as and when required.

 

Product Management (where applicable)

  • Monitor competitor updates and products.
  • Provide in-house training on assigned products as and when required.
  • Contribute to and participate in development and enhancement of content and functionality.
  • Maintain tidy and adequate records of all communications relating to cases products.
  • Participate in planning for cases products as and when required.

 

Liaison/Communication - Internal

  • Communicate clearly and regularly (including writing appropriate reports) with the Legal Portfolio Manager – Primary Law, other members of the Primary Law team and AEM Primary Law group and appropriate Marketing and Technology personnel.
  • Participate in in-house committees/working groups (as and when appropriate).

 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Relevant legal tertiary qualification required
