Team Leader - Social Work

About the role

As the result of an internal promotion and obtaining new service contracts, Barnardos is looking for a Team Leader with energy, enthusiasm and drive to supervise and support a team of dedicated social work professionals based in Invercargill.  

We believe people do their best work when what they love doing connects with what they are best at, so if you are an experienced leader of people, or are ready to extend your current leadership skills to step up into a challenging and exciting role we’d like to hear from you !  

Duties

  • Provide support, professional supervision and leadership to your team
  • Be responsible for the day-to-day management and practice of the service
  • Assist the Service Manager in wider management issues
  • Work with children and families using your wide range of social work skills and strategies

Skills & Experience

  • A qualified and fully registered Social Worker
  • Previous experience as a senior practitioner preferably in a social services setting
  • Experienced in providing supervision/or have a qualification in supervision
  • Experienced working with vulnerable tamariki and whānau using a social work case management framework.
  • Familiar with theory and practice around the impact of abuse and trauma
  • A holder of an unrestricted NZ driver’s license.

To be successful in this role you’ll also need

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Resilience as the work at times is strenuous
  • Flexibility and agility to cope with a fast paced environment; and more importantly,
  • The ability to build strong professional relationships with service providers and whānau throughout Southland.
