Family Start Whanau Worker

In order to provide cover for parental leave, we are looking for a Whānau worker to provide support and assistance to whānau by visiting them in their homes so they can achieve their care plans.  This is an exciting opportunity for a caring, compassionate individual who has great listening skills, and who wants to make a difference in their communities and the lives of others.  We are looking for a mature person who is respectful of others, and who is culturally sensitive.

Family Start is a child-centred, family focused and strengths-based service working from Putaruru. Responsibilities in this role include:

  • Home visits in South Waikato including the Piako area to deliver the Family Start programme; and
  • Delivery of the new parenting resource.

Our preferred applicant will have:

  • A Level 7 Diploma or Degree qualifications in a discipline relevant to working with children and their families/whānau
  • Registration in the respective fields of Health, Education, or the Social Services sector
  • Skills and experience working in the homes of our most vulnerable stakeholders
  • A commitment to work in culturally appropriate ways, to reflect and build on the strengths of individuals, whānau and hapu
  • Experience working within the Whānau Ora framework – assisting families to build and strengthen their whānau and community support networks
  • Excellent communication, report writing skills, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

You will be working in a friendly and supportive team environment, but you must also be able to self-manage, and take the initiative. Applicants must hold a valid and full Class 1 drivers licence and be prepared to undergo reference checks and Police vetting.

If you think you meet our requirements, please submit a cover letter, and a CV in chronological order by Wednesday 20 November 2019, to HR@raukawa.org.nz.
