    Job Summary

    Hours of work are between 8.00am and 5.00pm; with no additional out of hours work, meetings, report writing or extra-curricular components.  Is this sufficient to tempt you to move out of the traditional classroom and expand your existing leadership skills? 

    If so, Te Poutama Àrahi Rangatahi is seeking a certificated teacher who is able to provide strategic people and programme leadership to the education team of 4 (a certificated teacher and 3 teaching assistants).  The ideal candidate will be experienced at implementing, evaluating and reporting on behavior change, educational programmes; have an advanced understanding of curriculum management and development and possess a sound knowledge of current educational theory and practice.  

    We are looking for a strong communicator who can multi-task in a diverse work environment, however the role also requires someone who is unafraid to roll-up their sleeves and get stuck in when necessary!  

    About the role

    The primary objective is to supervise the development and best practice delivery of education for youth, ensuring integration with the therapeutic and residential aspects of the programme and lead the ongoing professional development of the teaching team.  

    It is essential to have significant experience leading people, preferably at a senior level within an educational context and critical to this role is an understanding of tikanga and te ao Màori. 

    As Lead Educator you will be a part of the Senior Leadership Team of 8 people, and you report directly to the Residence Manager.

    Duties

  • Lead the planning of new developments and initiatives in the school
  • Be the voice of education at leadership level
  • Liaise and work closely with other departmental leaders
  • Ensure that educational opportunities for youth are well planned and managed

     

Skills and experience key to this role are:

  • Appropriate teaching and leadership/management qualifications/ experience
  • Proven experience in effective leadership and management of staff and resources, or
  • Committed to developing your own future if an emerging leader,
  • Current full certification with NZ Teachers Council
  • A sound knowledge of NZ curriculum, learning and assessment theory and the current issues and initiatives in education, including Kaupapa Màori education
  • Experience working with young people who present ‘challenging behaviours’ and/or working in the field with young people with significant learning difficulties who have been educationally disadvantaged
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and to demonstrate continual improvement
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to build rapport and interact effectively with a wide range of people at all levels in both written and oral format.
  • Sound decision making capability
  • Ability to use initiative to proactively manage a range of situations
  • Be agile, flexible and possess high energy levels  
  • Hold an unrestricted NZ driver’s licence.
