Childcare Centre Cook

Cooks in our Early Learning Centres are a vital part of the team – they are responsible for providing nutritious and appealing meals on a daily basis for children in our centres. 

We strive to provide nutritious and delicious meals and snacks to support physical and mental development. We encourage healthy eating habits and offer a balanced menu to keep the children well fuelled throughout the day. The children also love being involved and we use the vegetables and herbs we grow, in our meals.

As a part-time position (6 hours per week) it is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a fun-filled and busy environment, surrounded by our tamariki.

Duties

  • Preparation of morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner
  • Developing and maintaining a nutritional programme that is consistent with the needs of pre-school children
  • Ensuring that food safety and hygiene best practices are maintained at all times
  • Appropriate planning and ordering of the fresh foods and supplies required for the menu whilst working within the allocated budget

Skills and experience

  • Current recognised qualification in food preparation
  • Previous practical experience working in a kitchen/food preparation environment, including experience of menu planning
  • Current knowledge of food hygiene and application to the preparation and serving of meals
  • Ability to communicate clearly with children and adults in a multicultural environment
  • Previous experience in the purchase, preparation and organisation of food and cleaning supplies
  • Current First Aid Certificate
