CAPS Hauraki (child abuse prevention services) multidisciplinary team work together to make a difference in the lives of families within our local communities.

A key focus for this role will be working alongside individuals in the Matamata-Piako district who have experienced sexual harm and their family/whanau providing:

  • Crisis counselling
  • Support during police interviews and medical examinations related to an incident of sexual harm
  • Information so that survivors and their families can make informed choices
  • Afterhours service and/or on call support to afterhours staff as part of a roster

In addition, you will work as part of the social services team providing counselling support and programme facilitation as required to meet the needs of our diverse range of clients.

Skills you would require to be successful in this role:

  • Advanced understanding around the dynamics and impact of sexual and family violence
  • The ability to work with individuals and families/whanau
  • The ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with key stakeholders
  • Excellent listening, communication and relationship/rapport building skills
  • The ability to demonstrate initiative, good judgement and flexibility
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • A formal Counselling Qualification and ideally NZAC Membership
  • The ability to utilise I.T. systems including a web based data base
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A full and clean Drivers Licence
