Youth Centre Management Mentor - Vanuatu

Volunteer Service Abroad (VSA) volunteers receive a living allowance and accommodation, insurance, and medical costs are provided. Travel arrangements are organised and funded by VSA along with other costs.

The Northern Care Youth Centre in Luganville offers a safe space for young people to take part in a range of activities. These services include teaching life skills such as sewing, information technology and sports, and access to important information around sexual health, contraception, positive relationships and social behaviour. The aim of the Youth Centre programmes is to encourage learning and awareness and to foster a sense of belonging and community for the youth of Vanuatu.

 The volunteer will strengthen the planning and financial systems of the Youth Centre. Working closely with the Youth Centre Coordinator and tutors you will develop an annual plan and a forecast, and interpret budgets and implement systems to ensure up-to-date information is captured. You will also assist in coordinating the daily running of the Youth Centre, build capacity by coaching and mentoring the tutors and suggest improvements.

An important part of this assignment will be exploring new partnerships and suggesting new services that the Centre could offer. You will bring fresh and creative ideas, enabling the Centre to grow and reach more young people.

We are looking for a volunteer with:

  • Previous experience in programme coordination and/or management of a youth, community or recreation centre
  • Skills and experience in budget preparation and management
  • Community development experience and / or experience working with young people
  • Ability to liaise with a range of stakeholders
  • Strong communication and people management skills
  • Competent working knowledge of Microsoft word, outlook and excel

This is a one-year assignment (with possible extension to 18 months) based in Vanuatu.
