Our multinational client is a large manufacturing company who are a leader in their field of production. The company are known to be hardworking, a team approach is a must, and performance is rewarded. This is a large manufacturing plant so applicants from a background like this will be better suited to this role.
You will apply your technical skills and process control knowledge to optimize plant operations, looking to continuously improve production efficiencies, cost savings, uniformity of production across shifts and plants, and have an overall regard for Health and Safety.
You will need a strong understanding of process improvement methodologies and provide proven examples of how you have applied these to production plant improvements. Lean including Value Stream Mapping and 6 Sigma are particularly sought after for this role but other methodologies like DMAIC, DMASI, TPM, Kaizen/5S.
A Mechanical aptitude is sought after and if you have an Electrical aptitude this is a bonus. Combine this with strong experience in continuous improvement within a plant based setting and you should read on.
Assigned to the finishing production area of the plant you will work on resolving production issues and also implementing improvement projects in this area. So for example analysing data, working with operators to find where improvement opportunities are, implementing improvement initiatives, that will be either project based or best practice initiatives. As the role is based in one area of the plant, you would be both responsible for that area and become an expert in that area.
You will spend between 50% to 70% working on the production line ensuring that the production machinery is running consistently. You will need to learn how the production machinery runs and should be operated and be able to demonstrate this to operators. You should also be able to have sufficient production based experience to troubleshoot what is going wrong mechanically or electrically for it to then be fixed by the relevant maintenance staff. You will be looking at reducing waste, delays, rejects, speed of the machines etc., keeping the day to day numbers at optimum overall equipment effectiveness scores.
This varied role will see you troubleshoot complex production and engineering problems. We are looking for candidates with a diverse background and strong plant and process knowledge.
You will need to have both the process improvement nous mentioned above and also the people skills to influence people, particularly operators, so that want to adapt to new ways of doing things.
You will be someone who can work relatively independently, speaks up and contributes ideas, and who takes initiative to kick off and implement project ideas.

To be considered a serious candidate for this role, you should have:
· Tertiary qualification in mechanical engineering, process engineering or equivalent
· At least 3 - 5 years process / production / project engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
· Mechanical and some Electrical Aptitude
· Excellent engineering, project management and troubleshooting skills
· Knowledge of Statistical Process Control, Lean Manufacturing, and 6 Sigma
· Strong communication and influencing skills
· Well-developed interpersonal skills – the ability to breakdown traditional departmental boundaries
· Ability to effectively drive change in the workplace
· Ability to analyse trends and take appropriate action
· Conversant with Value Stream Mapping
· Can work independently
· Can contribute ideas and take initiative to make projects happen
· Most important will be your positive mindset and drive to do better
