E te iwi, Contact’s annual summer internships for Maori are now open for applications! 

 

Our internships are aimed at developing whānau, hapū, iwi and Māori capacity, while supporting Contact in its endeavour to build stronger relationships with tangata whenua, particularly within the regions where we operate. 

We are excited to let you know this summer (2019-20) we are advertising the following Māori intern positions and eligibility criteria:

1 x Ngāti Tahu internship open to uri o Ngāti Tahu.

1 x  Tauhara internship open to those of Tuwharetoa descent who whakapapa to Tauhara hapu.

1 x Wairākei internship open to those of Tuwharetoa descent who whakapapa to Wairākei hapu.

2 x Waikato University internship offered in partnership with the University, these are open to any current students, or recent graduates of Waikato University.

All interns will be based in Taupō or Wellington.

As an electricity generator and retailer, Contact offers an opportunity to get hands on experience - from working at a geothermal power station at Taupō through to experiencing corporate life in Wellington. 

Selection Criteria:

We’re looking for dynamic and confident Māori who want to gain experience working in a corporate environment who:
• Are currently engaged in a tertiary programme of study, or other career development programme. We are open to applications from a wide range of disciplines but are particularly interested in those with engineering, resource/environmental management, science, media/graphic design or Maori/community development backgrounds.

• Are looking to make a contribution to their whānau, kāinga, marae, hapū or iwi;

• Are excellent communicators and are comfortable speaking to a broad range of audiences;

• Have an understanding of te reo Māori me ōna tikanga;

• Possesses research skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.

• Have a strong work ethic, and take pride in their professionalism

• Have strong whakaaro and views and are not afraid to share them with us.

IMPORTANT APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

  • Brief (no more than 4-page) CV detailing qualifications, work experience and skills
  • Recent academic transcript (if currently studying), with detail of the name of the institution and programme of study (electronic versions are OK)
  • Confirmation of which internship you are applying for
  • Kaumātua confirmation of your whakapapa OR letter of endorsement from your hapū/iwi representative, or kaumātua.
  • Tell us about your aspirations regarding your career and contributions back to your community, whānau, hapū, marae, and/or iwi? And what learnings you want to develop while at Contact? Please keep this to 200 words or less.

  2. Shortlisting and interviews will occur between 23rd October – 1st November 2019
  3. Successful applicants will receive an offer of acceptance by Monday 4th November 2019
  4. Internship begins Monday 9th December 2019
