Youth Worker - Residential Group Home

About the role

Our Residential Home provides a safe, supportive and therapeutic programme for youth, to develop life skills in preparation for transitioning back to their whanau, caregivers or otherwise into independence. We are looking for youth workers to work individually with a young women in our care.

  • As part of a team of Residential Youth Workers you will work with a multidisciplinary team including the young person's family to provide a trauma-informed approach to care
     
  • You will be part of a team committed to providing a home with a strong focus on healing, prevention, repair and restoration of well-being
  • As an engaging and fun youth worker you will be ready to get stuck in and participate in activities and be a champion to advocate for their voice.

Key responsibilities

  • Maintain knowledge of the rangatahi’s safety plans
  • Support to reach their short and long term goals
  • Actively participate in maintaining a safe and structured whare that provides a calm and caring approach to care
  • Support to live healthy and safe life including teaching them life skills, personal hygiene, engaging in fun and recreational activities
  • Develop, facilitate and monitor programmed activities as needed
  • Responsible for reporting and documenting daily notes, reporting incidents and other administrative duties
  • Take individual responsibility for Health and Safety Practices
  • Has knowledge and can apply principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi to their everyday practice

Skills and experience

To excel in this role you will have:

  • Youth Work / Social work qualification, or relevant qualification that is equivalent to Level 4 Certificate in Health and Wellbeing or be studying towards one
  • Ideally 2 - 3 years’ experience in working with young people who present challenging behaviour
  • Experience in working within a structured environment with strong protocols and practices
  • Full and clean NZ Drivers License
